Anyway, they swear that their site was located at 4:20 on Uranus. I'm just repeating the story.andiscandishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01409153642285844201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11167350.post-89662410779186979612009-05-18T10:53:00.000-07:002009-05-18T10:53:00.000-07:00Donald:Indeed, I was being a gloomy gus. Happily,...Donald:
Indeed, I was being a gloomy gus. Happily, I'm feeling a bit better today.

I share your preference for "doing" over "whining," and I agree that, were our population not concentrated in cities, the countryside would be in much worse shape.

That said, even though fewer folks today "connect to Nature," the number of visitors to our nation's parks continue to rise. Although the percentage of our populous connected to the outdoors may be in sharp decline, the growing population (birth and immigration combined) keeps the number of park users on the rise. It's no secret that all environmental problems can be traced to a root issue: overpopulation. Without an ethic of stewardship, most often borne of childhood or adolescent communion with the land, America's parkland legacy risks being overtaken.

As for Burning Man, I totally agree with you. Though I very much admire some of the creativity that has attached itself to the festival, it's generally a thoughtless, feel-good excuse to further disengage from meaningful contribution.

Thanks for the congratulations on the residency acceptance!

All the best.Hungry Hyaenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06354349850246750046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11167350.post-14062365972639617402009-05-18T08:46:00.000-07:002009-05-18T08:46:00.000-07:00Come on now, CR! you are being a gloomy gus again....Come on now, CR! you are being a gloomy gus again. You do need to get back out and reattach to nature. Even the East coast has plenty, we do have to sacrifice certain areas for human development, though always must weigh the consequences vs benefits. But citification has allowed us to travel to these places, perhaps a little too much. If we weren't concentrated in cities, the country would have been destroyed long ago. The higher the densitiy of man, the more land is left to be both pristine and farmable.

Yes, with more and more people we find fewer and fewer are connecting to nature, but i see this as a good thing, for the rest of us. Who are then charged with ballancing nature with man in ways we can best see and create. Yosemite has been booked and overcrowded for decades, glad tourism is shrinking, and hear the Grand Canyon has air polution problems so one cant see clearly nearly as often as in the past.

Soon to increase gas prices will lower outdoor participation, though much is just RV and camping in social areas for partying, I consider Burning Man to be one of the worst violaters of nature we know of. Destroying the fragile ecosystem of the desert, for what? Self worshipping hippies, who only want to glorify their own "cleverness", ignoring the world around them? Descending like locusts to party and get high for days on end?

But there are many in rustic areas who depend on visitors for jobs, the pressures to keep these locale's as virginal as possible will be maintaned. If violated frequently. America bled long ago. But still maintains her youthfulness, if now a little wiser and mature. We are doing better, and thats all that we can ask. Bring nature to you, and many do. More trees, more open areas in cities, more home grown foods. This is happening. Even as our populations continues to swell.

Get out there and inhale the fresh air of the West. We can never go back to what was, and the future will never be as we want it to be in our minds, but it will continue. It adapts as much as we do. Species may come and go, we included, but life goes on. Be at one, CR. This is what art is for, bringing to man gods gifts, his humility cleansing of arrogance and self absorbed contemplation, instead returning to the world, to god, and improving mankind, in the ways we can, with the gifts god has given us.

But with vigor. Every generation has its issues to deal with, thats called living, which is doing, not sitting on ones but whining and thinking. If thoughts do not lead to action, they are meaningless. Now, get to work! you will feel so much better. Adding to mankind, instead of worrying about it, in whatever ways we can. That is the only thing that truly matters. And enjoy life along the way, be thankful for this life we aere given. We are blessed, now lets take care of this gift.

Congratulations, you have worked hard to get an opportunity like this, and if you take advantage and do the job well, not for yourself, but fulfilling its purpose, there will be more. Go for it! What more could you ask for?

I hear the mourning dove's call as I type. It mourns only waste, it is a call to action, to living. good luck, and keep posting.

art collegia delenda estDonald Frazellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14438703089946598999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11167350.post-28464918221731776392009-05-18T07:34:00.000-07:002009-05-18T07:34:00.000-07:00Andiscandis:Danke!Andiscandis:
Danke!Hungry Hyaenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06354349850246750046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11167350.post-33473905834837750882009-05-18T06:00:00.000-07:002009-05-18T06:00:00.000-07:00Congrats on the residency!Congrats on the residency!andiscandishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01409153642285844201noreply@blogger.com
