Brad Pitt's CO2 dues

In this month's (March 2005) Harper's Index:

Number of saplings that Brad Pitt paid to have planted in Bhutan last year to counteract his personal CO2 production: 1,700

That's one of the more bizarre ways of minimizing an individual ecological footprint, but it still deserves attention (and praise).
