Small (Art) World

Michael McDevitt, a good friend and artist now living in Seattle, posted an interesting follow-up to my "And So On..." experience. It is, as the creepy robots in Disney's ride remind us, a small world (after all).

Why are cheerful robots so disturbing? 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was full of cutthroat pirates and skeletons, but it was all fun and games. 'It's a Small World,' on the other hand, always kind of skeeved me out.
The song has a slight edge of imperial threat to it. As if it was a refrain for the conquering machines...
"It's a small world after all!"
